New Resident Information (LEPC)
Dear Deer Park Resident:
Do you know how to protect your family in the event of a chemical emergency such as a release from a nearby plant, pipeline rupture, tanker truck or rail spill?
For more than 25 years, the Deer Park Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) has worked with local industry to maintain an effective emergency plan to protect our community, as well as to develop programs to educate the public about what to do in a chemical emergency. In addition to city and industry officials, LEPC members represent the Deer Park Independent School District, Chamber of Commerce, fire and emergency medical services, law enforcement, Harris County, the Deer Park Community Advisory Council and other organizations.
The material in this website, especially the section titled “Shelter-In-Place Information,” is intended to familiarize you and your family with the proper steps to take during a chemical emergency. Please review this important information and keep it handy.
The City of Deer Park uses the Everbridge alerting system to deliver critical and time sensitive communications such as severe weather warnings, evacuation notices, shelter-in-place notices, and missing child alerts, in addition to community announcements. Visit our webpage for additional information on how to register.
You can also download the Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) iPhone or Android app to receive messages regarding industrial plants. Visit their webpage https://www.ehcma.org/page/caer-online for more information.
Your LEPC is committed to protecting you and your neighbors. Our efforts have been nationally recognized. In fact, in 2004 and again in 2007, the Deer Park LEPC won top honors in a nationwide competition sponsored by the Chemical Education Foundation (CEF). The awards recognized Local Emergency Planning Committees that “best display a commitment to public safety and chemical product stewardship.”
Further details regarding how you will be warned and what to do in a chemical emergency can be found at on this website.
Sincerely,
James “Jay” Stokes
Chairman
Deer Park, LEPC
