How Do I?

Important Emergency Siren Notice - 11/15/2024

The City of Deer Park is changing the sound of the emergency siren system.  The new siren wail will be a steady tone, but may sound like it is changing slightly in pitch due to the siren speaker head spinning during activation. This change is being made to assist more citizens with hearing the sirens during emergencies.

Reminders about the siren system:

The sirens have a mounted red light on top to alert the Deaf community to an activation.

SIRENS ALWAYS MEAN SHELTER IN PLACE.  They may be activated for a chemical release or for a tornado, but they are always activated to instruct the community to shelter in place.

THE SIRENS ONLY BROADCAST A SIREN WAIL.  Recorded voice messages will not go out over the siren system.  Do not exit structures to listen to the siren system as this is goes against the recommendation to shelter in place.  Enroll in CodeRED for updates during emergencies, in addition to monitoring the news, city social media accounts and the city webpage.

Know if there is a chemical emergency?

If a chemical emergency could affect Deer Park citizens, the Outside Warning Siren will be activated.  The sounding of the siren is the signal for Sheltering-In-Place.  A computerized telephone notification system can ring the published telephones of home and businesses in the immediate danger area, giving pre-recorded instruction about what to do.

Shelter-In-Place?

1.  Go inside immediately.
2.  Close up.  Close all doors, windows and sources of outside air.  Turn off air conditioner or heating systems.
3.  Stay informed.  DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless you are reporting an emergency.
    a.  Television:  DPTV on Comcast Cable Channel 16 or AT&T U-Verse Channel 99
    b.  Radio:  KUHF-FM 88.7 or KTRH-AM 740

Know when the emergency is over?

Stay inside, sheltered-in-place, until you hear the all-clear signal from city officials over the Outside Warning System telephone notification system, Facebook, Twitter or DPTV.  The all-clear signal is a continuous tone on the Outside Warning System.  After the all-clear signal has been given, open all doors and windows, turn on your ceiling fans, air conditioner or heater, then go outside to let the building air out before you re-enter.
