[ARCHIVED] Featured Friday: From Tudors to Windsors: Looking at the History of British Royal Portraiture

FF_ Tudors to Windsors - web

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) has an exciting exhibit on loan of British Royal Portraiture through January 27, 2019.  Rachel Harmeyer, a PhD candidate at Rice University and Curatorial Fellow in European Art at MFAH, will use portraits from this important exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery, London to trace the history of portraying Kings and Queens of Britain from Henry VIII to Elizabeth II.  She will discuss the representations of power and authority, “dressing for success” as a monarch, and the notable artists who developed this genre. Join us on December 14 for Ms. Harmeyer’s presentation. Her presentation will begin at 11 AM in the library’s meeting room.

This presentation is the latest installment in the library’s Featured Friday series. These monthly programs offer a variety of lectures, movies and special programs of cultural, historical and local interest.

Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Deer Park Public Library. No registration is required and all are welcome to attend. There is no admission fee. The library is located at 3009 Center St., Deer Park, TX 77536.
