The Texas State Library & Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded funding to Deer Park Public Library under its Impact Grant program. The Impact Grant provides seed funds up to $10,000 to applications in three focus areas: business/workforce development and digital literacy; family and early childhood literacy; and electronic content access and delivery. Deer Park Public Library is one of 19 libraries to be awarded the grant for 2018.
Through grant funds, patrons now have in-house access to a widely used series of credentialing materials that is produced by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Individuals must take and pass an assessment test in order to advance in a specific industrial skill area. Titles include requested topics such as electrical, pipefitting, and welding.
As part of the grant, the Library is collaborating with experts to inform patrons on subjects relevant to industrial work through a series of programs called The Industrial Intelligence Series. These programs enhance the library’s existing class offerings.
