[ARCHIVED] Be Considerate for Safety Sake!

As you probably already know, residential sanitation pick up here at the city is done by dedicated city-employee sanitation staff, not outside contractors. Many of these employees are your friends and neighbors here at the city so we want to ensure we’re doing all we can to prevent injuries to their folks. Over the last several months, there have been a fairly large number of injuries sustained by Sanitation staff as they pick up the bags left by citizens. Sometimes these bags have sharp protrusions that have caused injury. We’ve experienced incidents from broken glass, sharply pointed/jagged-edged metal and even medical syringes. These “sharps’ pose a real danger to our employees.

Please be mindful that all materials are properly disposed of through the proper means. Also be sure that sharp protrusions are properly wrapped to prevent injury to our employees. City workers have a limited amount of time to make each stop and pick-up the garbage at that location, this speed and efficiency means little time to examine each bag before picking up. But your help ahead of time with some consideration and extra effort can help prevent injury and improve overall safety performance. and it’s the right thing to do!
