[ARCHIVED] City to shut down Surface Water Treatment Plant for maintenance projects - Weds., June 14

The City of Deer Park will be temporarily shutting down its Surface Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday, June 14 to complete maintenance projects.

According to Nicholas Cook, Water Plant Supervisor, the City does not anticipate that the shutdown – scheduled to last approximately eight hours - will affect usage.

“On Wednesday, June 14 from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the water plant will be shut down in order to complete three maintenance projects,” Cook said. “Prior to Wednesday morning, we will fill as much of our 6.5 million gallon water storage capacity as possible, which will cover our average daily consumption of 5 million gallons. We will also have the option of accessing our water wells in case of an emergency. Therefore, we do not anticipate this maintenance period to affect usage by residents or businesses.”

Cook said three maintenance projects are scheduled for completion during the eight-hour shutdown.

“First, the motor control center for the electrical panels that operate the back of the plant will be replaced,” he said. “We will also have two other minor projects - Coastal Water Authority will be replacing one of their valves which impacts incoming water, and the City will replace one of its water valves on the raw water line.”

The City and Public Works Department Facebook pages will be updated as new information becomes available.
