[ARCHIVED] Deer Park recognized as one of the safest cities in greater Houston area

In a Houston Chronicle story released late Thursday, Deer Park was recognized as one of the safest cities in the greater Houston area.
Working from data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the report compares 36 cities on the basis of crime incidents per 100,000 residents, property crime incidents and violent crime incidents.
Of the 36 cities included in the report, Deer Park was ranked the seventh safest city, outranking other area municipalities including Pasadena, Baytown and La Porte.
“I am very proud to share this announcement with our community,” Mayor Jerry Mouton said. “We take great pride in being a safe place to live, work and play, and I want to thank our Deer Park Police Department as well as our residents for making that possible.”
DPPD Chief Greg Grigg said he was very pleased with Deer Park’s standing in the list of compared cities.
“Our ranking may be attributed to the willingness of our citizens to call in suspicious persons and circumstances, the incredible proactive work of all patrol officers, the outstanding investigations conducted by our detectives, and the added personnel, technology, equipment, and communications provided by the Crime Control Prevention District,” he said. “For these reasons, the word on the street is that if you do a crime in Deer Park, you will in all probability be caught and taken to jail.”
Data for the Woodlands, Lake Houston, Kingwood, Eastex, Cy-Fair, Fort Bend, Clear Lake, Channelview, Mission Bend, Fresno, Greatwood, Cloverleaf and Aldine were not available.
