The Deer Park Public Library’s 2016 Summer Reading Club activities are coming up, with lots of fun features for kids, pre-teens, teens and adults.
The program will begin with the Friends of the Deer Park Public Library Book Fair, being held June 2 through 11 at the Library. From there, weekly special events, family flicks, crafts and activities will be available for children of all ages to enjoy, not to mention lots of reading!
According to Library Director Rebecca Pool, registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on Thursday, June 2 and the last day to receive prizes will be August 18.“The Summer Reading Club is open to all patrons with programs designed for each age group. There is the Read to Me Program for our youngest kids, Summer Reading Club for children up to age 11, the Teen Reads program for school-aged kids 12 and up. Finally, our adult patrons now have their own Summer Reading program. Summer Reading Club is designed to encourage everyone, but especially children and teens, to read throughout the summer,” Pool said. “Club participants receive a reading log to keep track of the books or hours read and will turn the log in to the library to receive prizes or be entered into prize drawings.
“The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Club is ‘On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!’ and everyone at the library is very excited to get the program started.”
Sponsors for the Summer Reading Club – including Skateworld, Golden Corral, Papa Murphy’s, What-a-Burger, Papa John’s, Wal-Mart, and the Friends of the Library – have donated prizes for the program. In the children’s program, for example, logs can be turned in after reading for five hours or reading a total of 10 books.
“All the details about all of our programs are available at the Library – please stop by or call us at 281-478-7208 to learn more!” Pool said.
