[ARCHIVED] Community Siren Test Change Coming

The Local Emergency Planning Committee has opted to change the time and frequency for testing the Deer Park emergency siren system. For years, the tests were conducted on the first Thursday of each month at 6 pm.
In an effort to increase the public’s awareness of this important warning system, the sirens will be tested at noon on Saturdays, beginning Saturday, April 5, 2014. We understand that many residents are outside enjoying the many recreational and sporting venues in Deer Park on Saturday afternoons. Therefore, more individuals will hear the sirens and, hopefully, take pause to reflect on what to do should an actual emergency occur.
This change will coincide with the time and day that the City of La Porte tests their warning systems. Both systems will be tested simultaneously at noon.
During an actual emergency, the sirens will sound and you will hear seven (7) wavering tones. When this system is activated, everyone should immediately seek shelter (building or vehicle) and follow the instructions given by local authorities.
To receive messages from the automated telephone notification system, you are encouraged to register your cell phone numbers by going to www.deerparktx.gov/oem, clicking on the Blackboard Connect icon, and then clicking on the ‘Sign Up Now’ button. For further assistance, please call 281.479.2394.
