[ARCHIVED] New Scams Hit Deer Park

The first scam involves the victim being contacted by phone by someone claiming to be with the I.R.S. The caller will advise that there was a tax mistake made by the victim and that the mistake must be corrected by additional money being sent to the I.R.S. The caller will state the money needs to be loaded onto a Green Dot Money Pak. The caller does not want you to pay over the phone with a card. The caller will advise the victim if the money is not placed on the Green Dot Money Pak the police will be sent to their residence and they will be arrested. THIS IS A SCAM. The police will not come to your residence. Hang up and contact the I.R.S. to confirm there is not a problem with your taxes.

The second scam also involves being contacted by phone. This is the one ring scam. Your cell phone will ring once and then show a missed call. When you call back the number, the spammers charge your phone bill like a 900 number. They charge $20 for the call and another $9 for every minute you spend on the call.
