Martial Arts

Martial Arts - Kenpo

We are under the instruction of Grandmaster James E. Smith. He has over 50 years of experience in martial arts. Our foundational style is Chinese Kenpo. We have classes for children as young as 4 years of age through adults. We would be excited to work with your child in learning respect, discipline, and self-confidence. We pay special attention to children who have been bullied or who is doing the bullying. Our program is based on a written curriculum. This means that there is clear understanding what a student would need to do to advance to the next level. We teach traditional weapons such as bo staff, broad sword, and escrima sticks that are included in the curriculum. We participate in karate tournaments and demonstrations throughout Texas. This allows our children to share their skills with others. During the year we host boot camps at the recreation center, it gives the children a chance to bond and enjoy being a kid with an imagination. Our adult class is primarily based on the curriculum, cardio, and self-defense. We teach adults how to protect themselves by way of open hands, escrima sticks, and blade. Your safety is our top priority.

Yes, we do have a very robust program and would love for you to come out and join our family.

Contract Program Refunds

To better serve our community, Deer Park Parks and Recreation Department (DPPARD) contracts out several programs. Due to advanced planning with the contracted instructors, it is at the discretion of the instructor to decide to issue a refund for said program. Only with the approval from the instructor will the DPPARD issue the refund. In the event the Department cancels any program, a full refund will be promptly issued.
