Food for Fines

Food for Fines

Do you have late charges on your library account that are discouraging you from visiting the library? Or perhaps you have a long overdue book? This February, in celebration of the library building’s 50th birthday, Deer Park Public Library will offer a one-time Food for Fines program giving patrons the opportunity to clear library fines while providing nonperishable food to community members in need. The library will accept unexpired nonperishable food items and/or dry dog or cat food to go towards previously incurred late fines (not valid for damaged or lost items). In addition, patrons with overdue items on their accounts can return the item with an unexpired nonperishable food item and/or pet food to waive all fines/fees for the item. Items must be in condition to be circulated.

Each can of food counts as $2 for waiving fines during this period.  Each 5 pounds of pet food counts for $10 for waiving fines during this period. The library will not apply additional credit to a patron’s account. All donated goods must be unexpired.

Both the Fine Forgiveness and Food for Fines programs can only be used toward late charges and not for other fees. Nonperishable food items will support the Interfaith Helping Hands Food Bank, while dry pet food will be donated to the Deer Park Animal Shelter.

Help us celebrate the building’s birthday and recent refresh by clearing your library account and checking out a book, DVD, or audio book.

The library is located at 3009 Center St., Deer Park, TX 77536.
