Deer Park Public Library to Participate in Gulf Coast Reads

Gulf Coast Reads

Deer Park Public Library will be a participating institution in the annual Gulf Coast Reads initiative. The purpose of the program is to bring communities in the Upper Texas Gulf Coast Region together by encouraging residents to read and discuss a chosen book. For more information on Gulf Coast Reads, please check the website at www.gulfcoastreads.org.

The 2018 Gulf Coast Reads title is Bluebird Bluebird, by Attica Locke.  It is a contemporary mystery set in East Texas featuring Darren Matthews, a black Texas Ranger who goes home to investigate two murders.  A rural noir suffused with the unique music, color, and nuance of East Texas, Bluebird Bluebird, is an exhilarating, timely novel about the collision of race and justice in America.

Print copies of the book are available at the Deer Park Public Library, as are Large Print downloadable electronic editions.  The library will host a book discussion on Tuesday, October 8, 2018, at 6 PM as part of the Mysteries and More Book Club.  Readers can learn more about the blues themes of the book on Thursday, October 25 at 7 PM in the presentation Highway 59 Revisited: The East Texas Blues presented by Steve Davis, Lone Star College.

Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Deer Park Public Library. No registration is required and all are welcome to attend. There is no admission fee. The library is located at 3009 Center St., Deer Park, TX 77536. The library’s telephone number is 281-478-7208.
