The Port of Galveston Cruise Terminal broke all of its previous records for the month of December 2017, embarking 113,488 cruise passengers. The port originally began cruises in September 2000 after a $10.6 million renovation of the Mallory Building on Pier 25. They had one cruise ship; the MS Celebration. Fast forward to December 2017, when the port welcomed its 9 millionth cruise passenger and had 33 cruise ship calls, which was another record for the port. Interim Port Director Peter Simons states that all indications suggest the port will continue to surpass records throughout 2018.
