Deer Park residents will notice major changes at the intersection of East Boulevard and 13th Street in January, when construction will begin on a brand new Soccer Complex!
The project – with anticipated completion in the fourth quarter of 2018 – is a Type B sales tax-funded project being completed by Houston firm Halff Associates. The voters of Deer Park approved seven Type-B sales tax funded parks and recreation projects in 2015. All are supervised by the Community Development Corporation.
“This January, we will begin construction on two Type-B funded projects – the Girls Softball Complex Renovation and the construction of a new Soccer Complex,” Parks and Recreation Director Charlie Sandberg said. “These two projects, approved by the voters of Deer Park in 2015, are both anticipated for completion during 2018.”
Halff Associates will also complete the Softball Complex Renovations, with construction slated to begin on January 8. Tandem Services is the General Contractor for both projects.
Soccer Complex amenities
Sandberg said Phase I of the Soccer Complex construction will result in a 35.8-acre complex featuring a wide range of amenities and six playing fields.
“Currently, soccer groups in Deer Park utilize the Youth Sports Complex, which includes only four fields,” Sandberg said. “The new Soccer Complex will include four lighted fields with energy-efficient lighting and two additional practice fields.
“The complex will also have a restroom facility, concession stand and a shade structure – it will be very open and great for league and tournament play.”
One of the most significant changes to the site will be the clearing and removal of trees and wooded area necessary to construct the complex.
“While there are open patches of land within the complex site, this project will require trees to be cut down along both major roadways,” said Tiffany McGallian, Park Operations Coordinator. “After construction is complete, our department will evaluate planting new trees to replace the ones being removed.”
Follow the project
Signage will be posted at the sites of both construction projects prior to their January start dates.
