City of Deer Park recognized as one of best small cities in the country to start a business

In an analysis posted today by WalletHub, the City of Deer Park was recognized as one of the best small cities in the country to start a business.

Specifically, Deer Park ranked #17 in the country and scored higher than any other city in Texas based on source data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and other sources. The data compared the business-friendliness of 1,261 small-sized cities to determine the best overall for launching an enterprise.

“It is very gratifying for me to see our city recognized for our strong economic environment, our friendly business owners and operators, and our overall growth,” Mayor Jerry Mouton said. “Not only do we have a diverse business community, but one that has stood the test of time, and I credit that to hard work and dedication throughout our municipality.”

Debbie Westbeld, the Economic Development Administrator for the City of Deer Park, said continued support and involvement plays a big part in why local businesses succeed.

“The fact that our business owners are actively involved in community service is one of the biggest reasons they see so much local success,” she said. “While we do have comparatively low costs for commercial space, not to mention a large amount of entrepreneurs and home-based businesses, I believe our businesses’ biggest strength is creating a feeling of small-town support that makes our residents want to shop local.”
