Gulf Coast Reads Speaker: Dr. Steve Davis, Blue Themes

Thursday, October 25, 2018

The 2018 Gulf Coast Reads title is Bluebird Bluebird, by Attica Locke. It is a contemporary mystery set in East Texas featuring Darren Matthews, a black Texas Ranger who goes home to investigate two murders. A rural noir suffused with the unique music, color, and nuance of East Texas, Bluebird Bluebird, is an exhilarating, timely novel about the collision of race and justice in America. Print copies of the book are available at the Deer Park Public Library, as are audiobook, Large Print, and electronic editions. The library will host a book discussion on Tuesday, October 8, 2018, at 6 PM as part of the Mysteries and More Book Club. Readers can learn more about the blues themes of the book at a program presented by Dr. Steve Davis on Thursday, October 25 at 7 PM. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Deer Park Public Library. No registration is required and all are welcome to attend.
